I am participating in this event to raise money for a great cause.
There are over 100 different forms of arthritis. One type, rheumatoid arthritis, affects about 1% of the world's population. I'll save you from doing the math - that's 69 million people.
And that's just rheumatoid arthritis.
Arthritis can be a disabling and painful condition, which can lead to substantial loss of functioning and mobility if not adequately treated. This isn't just a fact that I dug out of a book or web site. I myself have rheumatoid arthritis; I was originally diagnosed with it at age 17. When the symptoms are at their worst I can barely walk or dress myself.
Our present medical knowledge does not know what causes it and has no cure.
In this day and age I think that is unacceptable, and that is why I have stepped up to be part of this fund raiser.
